27 Reasons to Visit Historic Downtown Mooresville NC Part 2
If you haven’t visited our Historic Downtown Mooresville recently, you will be in for a pleasant surprise. Many of the storefronts have been or are in the process of being beautifully restored; the street improvements including brick crosswalks and inlaid brick sidewalk details, new decorative lamp posts and benches are complete; and SEVEN buildings have been purchased by developers who are planning some very exciting tenants! Here is a continuation of my list of 27 reasons to visit downtown Mooresville:
6. Mangum Martial Arts Academy,
Sensei Bob Mangan has been teaching Martial Arts in the Mooresville Lake Norman area since 1997 but he opened the Mangan Martial Arts Academy on Main Street in Historic Downtown Mooresville just this past April. What a great addition to our growing downtown!
The Mangan Martial Arts Academy offers classes in four age groups:
Little Ninjas: Ages 4-5
Karate Kids: Ages 6-10
Warriors: Ages 11-15
Adults: Ages 16 & Up
7. The Savvy Chef just opened recently. It is an upscale cooking store and eaterie.
8. John Smith, owner of John Franklin Ltd. has developed a very strong following during his 35 years running his upscale men’s specialty store which features men’s clothing, shoes and furnishings and tuxedo rentals. He carries such popular designers as Perry Ellis, Ralph Lauren, Clairborne and Palm Beach as well as Johnson Murphy shoes. His personalized service, free alterations and ability to special order are just part of what makes his clientel so loyal.
Here is a Testimonial I found on the Internet! ” I used John Franklin last year for my wedding. We rented 8 tuxedos from them and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the quality and fit….The staff was very nice and knowledgeable. The tuxedos arrived on time and they all fit. They do alterations on site in case something doesn’t fit right. They were very professional and have been in this business for a long time. Prices were on par with other rental places in the area, but the quality of the tuxedos was much better at John Franklin. David H. (rated 5 stars!) “
9. Artworks on Main , which just opened in May 2008, is a beautiful art gallery offering artist supplies, art classes for adults and children, workshops and seminars.
10. When I visited LKN Skate Shop for this article, I was fortunate to meet 13 year-old Jackson Davis. His father opened this state-of-the-art skate shop on Broad Street which caters to competitive and casual skateboards who are now enjoying the recently opened Mooresville Skate Park!
11. Elegant Hours is to women what John Franklin Ltd. is to men. Fairly new to Downtown Mooresville, Elegant Hours offers Bridal, Prom and Special Occasion dresses in a selection of price ranges. They carry such bridal designers as Alfred Angelo and Maggie Sottero.
12. If you live in Mooresville and haven’t heard of D. E. Turner Hardware then you simply need to promise me that you will dedicate a day to visit downtown and take a few minutes to stroll the aisles of D.E. Turners Hardware. From the classic red wagons and wood benches outside to the turn-of-the-century feel inside you will feel like you have traveled back in time. This wonderful glimpse of the past has been located at this same location since 1899! While they carry many typical hardware items you will also see examples of 19th and 20th century tools and accessories as well. As you might have guessed, they do not have a website so you must visit in person…the old fashioned way
13. Merle Norman Cosmetics offers a full line of cosmetics plus jewelry and Vera Bradley Handbags. If you feel like a makeover or a steam facial…just call for an appointment! Located across the street form Elegant Hours you can order your gown, go to Merle Norman for a makeover and then rest in between with an espresso at La Patisserie!
Well, we are only half-way through my list! I still have quite a few eateries, stores, town services and an update of things to come. Stay-tuned!
