Almost hidden away on a lovely Lake Norman peninsula off Perth Road in Mooresville is a truly remarkable neighborhood: Lake Norman Airpark. Imagine that instead of the usual garage you actually have a hanger for your plane(s) right next to your home and that you can taxi to and from the community runway at your convenience!
The Lake Norman Airpark is a community of about 56 homes surrounding the runway all of which are a member of the Lake Norman Air Park Owners Association which is a non-profit organization that owns and maintains the runway and approximately 40 acres of common area which includes the associated residential taxiways. Many of the homes have views of Lake Norman as well!
Above is a picture I took from the end of the runway of a one of the homes with its hanger on the left.
The picture on the right is of one of the hangers with the home in the background also taken from the end of the runway.
In 2003 and 2004 the entire runway was repaved, a new taxiway was installed, center lines and edge marking of the runway were completed, a new runway lighting system installed as well as two PAPI units which are on timers and operate continuously during night time hours.
The Lake Norman Airpark is another example of our amazingly diverse and exciting recreational and residential communities along Lake Norman.
