How to Avoid All North Caroina Sales Taxes on Back-To-School Supplies!

Mark your calendars and set your alarms; the North Carolina sales tax holiday is coming!

From exactly 12:01a.m Friday, August 3rd through 11:59p.m. Sunday, August 5Th, North Carolinians (that includes Lake Norman!) can shop for back-to-schools products and pay no sales tax. Items that qualify for this tax exemption include:

  1. Clothing, footwear and school supplies of $100 or less per item
  2. Sports and recreation equipment of $50 or less per item
  3. Computers of $3500 or less
  4. Computer supplies of $250 or less per item

Items not covered by this North Carolina tax exemption include: accessories, jewelry, cosmetics, protective equipment such as hard hats, safety belts and tool belts; wallets; furniture; items used by trade or businesses and rentals.
