Lake Norman Has Plenty to Offer Wine Lovers!
When one first thinks of life on Lake Norman, you probably visualize picnics, sweet tea and ice cold beer. However, with the influx of upscale restaurants and our high-end real estate has come greater interest and opportunites for wine lovers.
When it comes to buying wine and wine tastings, the class of the field is 202 North Main in Historic Downtown Mooresville. When I first arrived here in 2005, my parents (who had a vineyard in Napa Valley CA for 25 years) and I happened upon this wonderful shop and were quite impressed with their selection and variety of really good and unusual wines. After closing for a period of time, 202 North Main is now back open and once again holding their weekly Thursday evening wine tastings. They usually have a theme and serve fruit and cheese, all for $10. Great for new wine lovers as well as experienced connoisseurs. For more information: 704.663.5445.
Also on Thursday evenings, The Corkscrew in Birkdale Village in Huntersville in the southwest corner of Lake Norman offers wine tastings from 6pm to 8pm. They charge $5 for four wines and if you decide to purchase a wine served at the tasting the $5 goes towards the purchase price. As does 202 North Main, The Corkscrew brings in wine distributers, importers and representatives to share their expertise. For more information: 704.987.0011.
A third option for Thursday evening wine tastings is Say Cheese at The Grapevine in Mooreville on Williamson Rd. Their tasting sessions are $15 per person and they offer 6 wines, cheese and crackers. They also have live music.
If you truly are a wine fanatic, you might want to join the Lake Norman wine club called the LKN Wine Group. You can also check out the website LocalWineEvents.com and search Lake Norman to learn about upcoming wine tastings in and around Lake Norman.
Cheers!
