When it comes to water sports, I am beginning to think that Lake Norman wants for nothing! If you are a hardcore surfer or have family members who think that moving to Lake Norman means being 4.5 hours from your next set of waves, think again. Think smaller surf boards and more air. Think wakesurfing!
And then, take a drive to the IcyWaves Surf Shop on Torrence Chapel Rd. in Cornelius…you will be stoked.
IcyWaves Surf Shop has been locally owned and operated for 4 years by two sisters. Former bankers, Shannon Smith (In my picture to the right) and her sister not only opened up a store offering cool clothing (Hurley, Billabong, Quicksilver, Rusty, Ripcurl, Roxy), hats, tees, baggies and boardshorts, they have become synonymous with Lake Norman Wake Boarding and supporters of all things wake surfing.
From sponsoring a competitive team of wakeboarders/wakeskaters to bringing serious competitive events like Wake the Lake to Lake Norman which I wrote about last September, IcyWaves is passionate about supporting the wake lifestyle here in Lake Norman.
They carry wakesurf boards by Phase Five and balance trainers by Indo Board. “If we don’t carry the board you are looking for, no worries, in most instances we can special order it with overnight delivery.”
Because wake surfing is a sport for all ages and capabilities, they carry a full range of boards from the fast and maneuverable ICON to the OOGLE “designed for the larger rider or someone who prefers to cruise in the pocket”.
