Relocating? Life in Lake Norman

Lake Norman Real Estate’s Business of the Week: Think Green Recycle

Did you know that there is curbside recycling in the greater Mooresville/Lake Norman area?  Not the City of Mooresville’s test program but a privately owned and operated service that covers the entire Brawley School peninsula including such housing communities as far out as The Point and Tuskarora, as far south as Davidson Lake and Langtree, out east to Faith Road and Cherry Grove and north to Perth and Cornelius Roads?

Think Green Recycle Service of Mooresville evolved out of one family’s passion for recycling.  Trish Doak, her husband and three children moved to Mooresville in 2003.  Like many of us transplants, Trish was surprised to find that there was no curbside recycling service and spent her first years, just as my family does, making regular trips to the Iredell Transfer Station on Hwy 150.

Once her youngest child was in kindergarten, Trish decided to help her neighbors (knowing how busy everyone is) by offering to pick up their recycled goods.  A few flyers resulted in calls from neighborhood associations like The Farms and The Harbor.  This incredible response led to the Doaks researching recycling trucks, grants and loans and the eventual launch of Think Green Recycle Service in December of 2007.  As of today, Trish said they have over 600 clients and several schools “thanks to the children wanting to recycle” and even some businesses.

To date Trish estimates they have saved over 200 tons of recycle material from going to our local landfill!

“Our customers have informed others, given the gift of recycle pick-up for Christmas presents, involved their business’s and more.  We are all making a difference and my husband Rich and I are proud to be a valuable member of this community!”
