Our Lake Norman communities offer an amazing array of festivities and celebrations during the holidays. From small town parades to Christmas bazaars, old fashioned horse-drawn carriages, hot apple cider, carolers, Santa and even a sailboat parade, you will find myriad ways to celebrate your holidays. It is amazing how Santa gets around Lake Norman!
Here are some of the biggest to get you started:
HUNTERSVILLE and BIRKDALE VILLAGE
Huntersville kicks off the holidays with the arrival of Santa and their annual tree lighting ceremony on November 14th at 3 pm – 8pm at Birkdale Village. This event is presented by Lake Norman Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram. Ace & TJ from 96.1FM will be onsite to emcee the event again this year and we will be fundraising for Ace & TJ’s Grin Kids!!! We also have a huge surprise with the holiday tree that you dont want to miss! Arrive early, visit the vendor booths and let the kids enjoy bouncehouses, facepainting and more then find your spot for the parade!!! Santa will be available for photos in his home across from the tree right after the tree lighting!
The rest of the season visitors of Birkdale Village can enjoy the beautiful displays/decorations and even photos with Santa on Saturdays and Sundays from Noon – 6pm. (Not to mention some of the best shopping and restaurants in Lake Norman!)
Saint Mark’s Christmas Bazaar: November 14th: 10th Annual Saint Mark Christmas Bazaar is this Saturday, November 14, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Saint Mark Catholic. 14740 Stumptown Road, Huntersville, NC 28078 FamilyCenter Free goody bags to the first 500 attendees. Gifts in all price ranges for all ages; $1 adult admission for adults. All proceeds go to benefit programs and charities at Saint Mark Catholic Church. 60+ Booths: Raffles, Bake Sale, Layered Gift Jars, Jewelry, Fleece Items, Kitchen Items, Home Décor, Religious Gifts, Wreathes, Jams & Jellies, Handmade Wooden Toys, Handmade Cards, Entertaining Items, Scrapbooking, Hair Bows, Original Art, Local Honey, Toys & Baby Items, Purses & Accessories, Holiday Decorations, Concessions and More!
Huntersville Town Center Tree Lighting: December 4th: 6pm – 7:15pm
A Huntersville Christmas: December 12th 4pm – 8pm. The Town of Huntersville turns into a winter wonderland, complete with food, entertainment and a Ferris wheel, for its annual A Huntersville Christmas festival.
Mooresville’s Christmas Parade is before Thanksgiving? Yep, it is Tuesday, November 24th starting at 3:30. It is a long story, but I guess each town around Lake Norman and Charlotte was designated a different week for their parades and Mooresville ended up with the Tuesday before Thanksgiving!
This year is the 71sth Annual Mooresville Christmas Parade. It just keeps getting bigger and better every year yet organizers work hard to make sure it retains its ‘home town’ feel. Entries include floats and performers traveling down Main Street in Historic Downtown Mooresville. These will include marching bands, Scout troops, dance schools, floats and Santa! 12,000 – 15,000 of our local residents come out each year to enjoy the fun so get there early, especially if you want a good spot in the heart of Downtown.
December 4th, 11th and 18th – Celebrate the Holidays in Downtown Mooresville | Music, Santa visits, Christmas Tree Lane, Wagon Rides, 75,000 Holiday Light Spectacular & more!! 6pm – 8pm & activities take place on Broad & Main Streets. Loading and unloading for wagon rides takes place at the Christian Mission on Broad Street. Santa visit and wagon ride loading ends promptly at 8pm
December 6 – The 7th Annual Holiday Children’s Party | Join in the fun and don’t forget to dress to impress because Santa and Rudolph will be there to take complimentary photos! From 9am-11am at The Charles Mack Citizen Center, 215 N. Main St. Brought to you by the Town of Mooresville.
2015 Denver Christmas: This year’s theme is “The Songs & Sounds of Christmas”. The week kicks off on Sunday November 29th with Santa, the Tree Lighting Ceremonies and community sing with students from our local schools from 5:15 to 6:45 at Lake Norman Lutheran Church, Natalie Commons Drive and Business 16.
The 2015 Parade will be held on Saturday, Dec 5 from 2pm to 4pm, starting on North Pilot Knob and Hager’s Ferry Rd, proceeding north to Captain’s Cap.
There is NO Rain Date.
OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS in our area:
November 27 & 28th: 100 years of Christmas (10:00am-4:00pm).The plantation will be decorated in period holiday décor celebrating Christmas 1768-1868. Clothed interpreters will be impersonating the life and times of the Latta and Sample families as they would have celebrated in the Latta home. Open hearth cooking, handcrafting, open-house tours, farmer Christmas cabin, caroling, and meeting Father Christmas. Admission: $8 Adults, $7 Seniors/Students, FREE for children 5 & under.
Candlelight Christmas December 5, 2015 (6-9pm) Enjoy a beautiful stroll among the candlelit property and buildings that make up Latta Plantation. See first person dressed interpreters as they celebrate Nancy Latta’s holiday wedding. Enjoy caroling, refreshments, and an 1800’s inspired Live Nativity Scene. This unique and timeless event the entire family is sure to enjoy! Admission: $8 Adults, $7 Seniors/Students, FREE for children 5 & under. Latta Plantation website for more information.
Christmas in the Country at Abide-A-While Acres
November 20, 2015 – November 29, 2015: 5483 Old Plank Rd, Iron Station, NC 28080. Join us for Christmas in the Country! The almost 200 year old farmhouse will be beautifully decorated inside and out creating the perfect backdrop for your family Christmas card. Photographers will be there to capture your images. Bring the family and enjoy shopping for holiday gifts from handmade artisans, nibbling on sweet treats, petting an Alpaca, and maybe even getting your tree! Two days of magical Christmas fun!
*Lake Norman Yacht Clubs 4th Annual Christmas Sailboat Flotilla and Parade*
Hosted by Lake Norman Yacht Club’s Keelboat Fleet, this lake-wide event will feature decorated sailboats on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 7:00pm.
