Relocating? Life in Lake Norman

Landscaping is coming to Lake Norman’s Brawley School Road!

Lake Norman's Brawley School Road Widening lacked landscaping

With the completion of the 3-year widening of Brawley School Road in Mooresville, those of us who live on Lake Norman’s wonderful Brawley Peninsula were so elated for it to be over that most of us took the lack of the promised landscaping of the center medians in stride.  What are a few weeds compared to the gift of time not spent in traffic?  Life is good!

Thankfully, the Lower Brawley School Road Beautification Committee was formed and their members have worked tirelessly with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to push them live up to their original landscape committments.

Beginning in Fall 2014, the state will begin landscaping the entire 7- mile Brawley School Road from our new Exit 35 to Southfork Road where Brawley School narrows just before entering The Point.  In their January meeting, DOT Roadside Environmental Engineer, Morgan De Witt, unveiled their plans for their specific plantings that will be placed in the widest portions of the medians.

In addition to the plantings, the rest of the medians will be sodded with Zoysia grass which is a spreading variety that is supposed to remain reasonably neat in the winter.

The NC DOT has also shared that the mowing and maintenance of the entire 7-mile stretch has been contracted and will be paid for by them.  The mowing contract will be on a 3-week schedule from May to October.

Finally, the NC DOT announced that they are funding and have plans for plantings at our new Exit 35 and additonal planting for Exits 31, 33 and 36.

I would personally like to thank the Lower Brawley School Rd Beautification Committee for its tireless work over the past 2 years!

Lake Norman’s Newest I-77 Exit 35 Due to Open in June!

Lake Norman's New Exit 35 Construction in Mooresville

Wow, how time flies!  Construction began on Lake Norman’s newest Exit 35 on I-77 in November of 2009 and officials now say it will be completed in mid-to-late June.   I took this photo yesterday at the actual intersection. As you can see, the work here is completed and the signs are even up and ready to go.

Seriously, there is some honest, well-deserved pride in the phrase “I survived the Brawley School Rd Widening”.  It took about 5 years but in just a few months the final phase will enable us to take our new, awesome, 4-lane divided Brawley School Road all the way to our new Exit 35 on I-77!  Owning a home, waterfront or not, down Brawley School road is now one of the very best options in all of Lake Norman.  We are close to great shopping, restaurants and the I-77, we have good schools, low taxes and are now even a destination for atheletes and cyclists thanks to our new bike lanes.  Not to mention that we are home to the gorgeous  Trump National Golf Club, Charlotte Lake Norman.
