Lake Norman’s 2017 Fireworks, Parades and Celebrations

From nostalgic patriotic parades to community festivals with firework displays to myriad planned and spontaneous raft- up (boat) parties on Lake Norman, there truly is something for everyone here in the greater Lake Norman area this 4th of July. Get out of your home, save gas and have a great time!” I wrote this EIGHT years ago and it is still just as true this year. So, here is the run down on Lake Norman’s 4th of July festivities 2017:

 

Saturday, July 1st at 11:00am the 10th Annual Troutman Independence Celebration Parade will be held on a 3-mile route from the Iredell County Fair Grounds ending at the Troutman Elementary School. (Highway 21).If you want to experience a slice of true, old-fashion, small-town Americana, this is a must attend parade. The streets are lined with flags, yellow ribbons and folks of all ages, many with signs honoring our military past and present. The parade itself has about 150 entries including floats with United States Veterans from all of our wars, military units, WWII Vehicles, local clubs and civic organizations, beauty queens and just about any thing you can imagine including at least one John Deere Tractor! This year Our 2016 Grand Marshals are “The National Guard and Reserves”.  Again this year the parade is followed by the Troutman Independence Day Festival at the fairgrounds from 5:30-9:30 pm, ending with a breathtaking fireworks display at 9:30!

 

Celebrate our country’s freedom at the Lowe’s YMCA’s Summer Celebration on July 3rd for one of the biggest, baddest Independence Day fireworks show in the Lake Norman area. Festivities start at 4:00 pm. 15,000 – 20,000 people are expected to gather at and around the Y for family fun, music, food vendors and – of course – FIREWORKS! The celebration will kickoff at 4 pm with activities for the kids including inflatables, face painting, games, and balloons. Featured bands include: Matt Stratford Band at 5:30 and at 7:00 p.m.  At 8:45 PM Maddie Huecker performing the National Anthem and at 9:00 PM the Fireworks Spectacular. The event is free and open to the public but all proceeds from sponsors and vendors will benefit the Lowes Community Support Campaign. Get there early to find a good parking spot!

 

The Town of Huntersville will be hosting their 12th Annual Fourth of July Celebration on Monday, July 4th from 10:00am – 1:00pm at Birkdale Village…a family-friendly celebration! Join Birkdale Village as we celebrate our nation’s 240th birthday with a gigantic family festival! Stage performances, face painting, balloon art, bounce houses, craft tables, bike decorating & patriotic bike ride, music, roaming entertainment and more! Plus, the annual Huntersville Fire Department water fight at 12:15pm Admission and Parking are FREE!

 

The Town of Davidson will be holding its annual downtown parade and concert on Tuesday, July 4th. Citizens are invited to celebrate our nation’s independence with a homespun, downtown parade and a concert on the green. The parade will include a color guard, a fire engine, and lots of patriotic residents. Participants Parade marchers are asked to line up at McEver Field on South Street at 5:15 p.m., and the festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. All citizens are encouraged to march in the parade dressed in Independence Day attire and to decorate their wagons, bicycles, tricycles, and pets in red, white, and blue. A color guard comprised of members of the police and fire departments will lead the parade up South Street onto Main Street and onto the town green. The Concert on the Green will begin at 6:00 p.m.

 

The Town of Cornelius is holding their Symphony in the Park with fireworks on Saturday, June 24th.

  • 6:45pm: Prelude by Rockie Lynne
  • 8:15pm: Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Celebrate America!
  • Fireworks immediately following the performance

Bring your blankets and chairs and join us for an evening with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra at the Bailey Road Park Bandshell. Free KidZone will be provided and concessions will be available.  Coolers and picnic baskets are welcome!

 

Denver Fireworks Spectacular is on July 1 @ 4pm  at  East Lincoln High School dabanc.org     This free festival will include top caliber musicians, a dunking booth, raffles, kid games and attractions, food, drinks and cold treats. Performers include country music star Collin Raye and Lincoln County native, Kelby Costner.

 

SKYSHOW Charlotte at BB&T Ballpark will offer the largest Fourth of July fireworks display in the Southeast on Monday, July 4th 2014 at BB&T Ballpark.  Come early for the pre-game festivities at the SkyShow Street Party including live music, food, drinks, inflatables, kid crafts, carnival rides, games, prizes and more! After the game, we will honor our Veterans and Military Personnel in a patriotic flag ceremony followed by the most amazing choreographed fireworks in the Southeast!

 4th of July Festival at the U.S. Whitewater Center:    Show your patriotism and break out your red, white and blue at the USNWC‘s  4th of July Festival, a two-day celebration on  Monday July 3rd and Tuesday July 4th featuring outdoor adventure, live music and spectacular firework displays. Musical performances on the Belmont Abbey Island stage will take place in the afternoon and evening, followed by a stunning firework display over the world’s largest man-made whitewater river. Bring out your blanket or chairs, pick out a great viewing spot and enjoy the show.

 

4th of July firework’s display at The Point’s Trump International Golf Club in Mooresville at 9:30pm. This will be the fifth year of fireworks at the golf club community. In the past the mortars and shells for the show were so large that the Fire Marshall’s office required New York-based BAY Fireworks Pyrotechnic Engineering to notify the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport that night so airplanes could be directed to a different flight plan!!! For residents and members of The Point and Trump International Golf Club Charlotte there are a whole day of activities offered starting with a tennis round robin at 9:00am.

 

Take a cruise on Lake Norman and watch a fireworks show from the water. There isn’t much information yet on their website other than the dates: July 1st – 4th and location:  Queen’s Landing, 1459 River Highway, Mooresville.  I would check their website or call for more information.

 

Annual events not yet confirmed for 2017:

Lake Norman Peninsula Golf  Club  (Not the Yacht Club)  is having a fireworks display at 9:30pm on July 4th.  19101 Peninsula Club Drive, Cornelius. They have been doing this for about 15 years but keep it quiet!

Saturday, June 29th at 11:00am the 9th Annual Troutman Independence Celebration Parade will be held on a 3-mile route from the Iredell County Fair Grounds ending at the Troutman Elementary School. The parade itself has about 100 entries including floats with United States Veterans from all of our wars, military units, WWII Vehicles, local clubs and civic organizations, beauty queens and just about any thing you can imagine including at least one John Deere Tractor! This year The Military Order of the Purple Heart/Wounded Warriors veterans will serve as the Grand Marshals. What a great way to honor those who have given so much for our country! Again this year the parade is followed from 5:30-9:30 pm by the Troutman Independence Day Festival at the fairgrounds and ending with a breathtaking fireworks display at 9:30!

Saturday, July 3rd at 11:00am the 6th Annual Iredell County Independence Day Parade will be held on a 3-mile route from the Iredell County Fair Grounds ending at the Troutman Elementary School.  (Highway 21).If you want to experience a slice of true small-town Americana, this is a must attend parade.  The streets are lined with flags, yellow ribbons and folks of all ages, many with signs honoring our military past and present.  The parade itself  has over one hundred entries including floats with United States Veterans from all of our wars, local clubs and civic organizations, beauty queens and just about any thing you can imagine including at least one John Deere Tractor!  This year the Gold Star Mothers will be leading the way as the Grand Marshalls. Gold Star Mothers are those that have lost a son or daughter during their service to the United States. Continue reading
