When I think of fall the Blue Ridge Mountains almost always come to mind first.  Yet another wonderful thing about living in the Lake Norman area is that the mountains are only about 2 hours away!  Whether you go for a day, a weekend or a long stay, a trip to our Great Smokey Mountains is a must do in the fall.  And, the good news is that this year is predicted to one of the best in years for color in quite a while due to the drought.  Want to know when to go for peak peeping? You need look no farther than our local TV weather experts who provide updates on their broadcasts and websites frequently to let us know the best time to peep.  Or, check out this Fall Color Map from Appalachian State’s Biology Department.  It looks like October is the month this year!

This gorgeous photo is of the Linn Cove Viaduct on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Lake Norman’s sunsets are always wonderful but to capture this moment of pure joy with the young boy’s outstretched arms is priceless. When you look at the boy you just can’t help but smile and feel uplifted by his happiness. What a great way to greet our summer of 2015 on Lake Norman!

This amazing photo was taken by renowned artist Cotton Ketchie, owner of Mooresville’s Landmark Gallerieswho spends much of his time driving all over North Carolina and even summer trips around the country, taking stunning photos. And, of course, he also takes some amazing photos of Lake Norman as well. If you haven’t visited his store on Main Street in Historic Downtown Mooresville you should put it on your list for 2014! He has myriad beautiful photographs like this one for sale as well as his wonderful watercolors and even North Carolina pottery. Continue reading

May in Lake Norman is when the lake really comes to life. Our shoreline’s profusion of lush green trees, Carolina Blue Skies, and warm weather lure even the most casual boaters out on the lake.  I was enjoying this amazing view a few days ago at a waterfront home I am listing and I just couldn’t resist taking a photo!  This is a great example of the best of life off of the Main Channel.  While it is just around the corner, wide coves like this one are perfect for those seeking a bit more serenity and sense of nature.  Continue reading

Spring is finally here! April truly is my favorite month of the year here in Lake Norman. All of our trees turn the most brilliant shades of green, flowers abound and our Carolina Blue Skies and sunshine give me such a boost of energy.  While I love Lake Norman, I also enjoy driving out into the farmlands where you will see fields of yellow like this one above as mustard and various crops start to take over the rolling red soil fields.

One quick look and you might think this amazing mountain is in the Blue Ridge Mountains but it isn’t. Pilot Mountain, which is considered one of the most distinctive natural features in North Carolina, is actually part of an ancient chain of Sauratown Mountains and is located northeast of Lake Norman in our beautiful Yadkin Valley known for its over 50 wineries including two in the town of Pilot Mountain population 1477!   Pilot Mountain is part of the Pilot Mountain State Park where visitors can take a paved road to the visitor center and campgrounds or go further up to a parking lot on the ridge.  Trails from there take you to the main Little Pinnacle Overlook and other viewing spots.
