Did you know that our very own Statesville NC is considered the “Kitty Hawk of ballooning” and is second only to Albuquerque NM for ballooning in the entire nation? It turns out that our Lake Norman area weather and terrain are perfect and October is a prime month according to Charles Page, chairman of Nation Balloon Rally Charities which hosts the annual Carolina Balloonfest. “People who come here are the cream of the crop in terms of experienced pilots” Page said. And, Masha Treacy, director of the current rally, was featured in the Smithsonian’s commissioned book “Women in Flight” according to a recent article in the Charlotte Observer by Sandra Phillips.
This weekend, October 26th-October28th is the 34th Annual CAROLINA BALLOONFEST just up the I-77 from Mooresville at the Statesville Regional Airport! Join in a fun-filled weekend of exciting, family-oriented activities culminating in the mass ascensions of 50 colorful, hot air balloons. I have heard it is simply spectacular and it looks like the weather will be perfect as well. (Last year it rained.)
While the big attraction is the hot air balloons, the competition and mass ascension every evening and even balloon rides, there are many many more things going on throughout the weekend including:

- Kid’s Fun Zone and Children’s Stage
- North Carolina Wine Tasting (11 Wineries are participating this year)
- Aviation Displays
- Live Main Stage Entertainment including: Rockie Lynne, Coastline Band, Acoustic Band and David Lamotte
- Artisan Village Arts and Crafts
- Market Place
- Eat Street’s Great Food
My very own real estate office, RE/MAX at the Lake, will be offering free hot air balloon rides in a tethered, full-size hot-air balloon for those who may want to get an idea of what it is like without taking a real ride which I understand costs about $200. I will be working at our balloon on Sunday evening so please stop by and say hi!
Admission to the Carolina Ballonfest is $5 or $15 for the wine tasting. Children under 5 are free. For more information go to: Carolina Balloonfest
