From nostalgic patriotic parades to community festivals with firework displays to myriad planned and spontaneous raft- up (boat) parties on Lake Norman, there truly is something for everyone here in the greater Lake Norman area this 4th of July. Get out of your home, save gas and have a great time!” I wrote this NINE years ago and it is still just as true this year. So, here is the run down on Lake Norman’s 4th of July festivities 2018:
Saturday, June 30th at 11:00am the 10th Annual Troutman Independence Celebration Parade will be held on a 3-mile route from the Iredell County Fair Grounds ending at the Troutman Elementary School. (Highway 21).If you want to experience a slice of true, old-fashion, small-town Americana, this is a must attend parade. The streets are lined with flags, yellow ribbons and folks of all ages, many with signs honoring our military past and present. The parade itself has about 150 entries including floats with United States Veterans from all of our wars, military units, horses, submarines, classic and antique cars ,fire engines, beauty queens, re-enactment groups, politicians, WWII vehicles, trains, planes, and many more surprises. We are proud to honor all veterans. This year Our 2018 Grand Marshal is Vietnam Veterans! . Again this year the parade is followed by the Troutman Independence Day Festival at the fairgrounds from 5:30-9:30 pm, ending with a breathtaking fireworks display at 9:30!
Celebrate our country’s freedom at the Lowe’s YMCA’s Summer Celebration on July 3rd for one of the biggest, baddest Independence Day fireworks show in the Lake Norman area. Festivities start at 6:00 pm. 15,000 – 20,000 people are expected to gather at and around the Y for family fun, music, food vendors and – of course – FIREWORKS! The celebration will kickoff at 4 pm? (This year their website isn’t complete but it says 6 pm) with activities for the kids including inflatables, face painting, games, and balloons and at 9:00 PM the Fireworks Spectacular. The event is free and open to the public but all proceeds from sponsors and vendors will benefit the Lowes Community Support Campaign. Get there early to find a good parking spot!
The Town of Huntersville will be hosting their 13th Annual Fourth of July Celebration on Wednesday, July 4th from 10:00am – 1:00pm at Birkdale Village…a family-friendly celebration! Join Birkdale Village as we celebrate our nation’s birthday with a gigantic family festival! Stage performances, face painting, balloon art, bounce houses, craft tables, bike decorating & patriotic bike ride, music, roaming entertainment and more! Plus, the annual Huntersville Fire Department water fight at 12:15pm Admission and Parking are FREE!
The Town of Davidson will be holding its annual patriotic stroll/parade and concert on Wednesday, July 4th. There are no fireworks in Davidson, but citizens are invited to celebrate our nation’s independence with a patriotic stroll along South Street to the town green and a concert on the green on Wednesday, July 4 . The parade will include a color guard, a fire engine, and lots of patriotic residents. Stroll participants are asked to line up on Wednesday, July 4 at McEver Field on South Street at 5:15 p.m., and the festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. All citizens are encouraged to walk dressed in Independence Day attire and to decorate their wagons, bicycles, tricycles, and pets in red, white, and blue. A color guard comprised of members of the police and fire departments will lead the parade up South Street onto Main Street and onto the town green.
The Town of Cornelius is holding their Symphony in the Park with fireworks on Saturday, June 23rd. (I apologize as this was last Saturday but keep it in mind for next year!)

Bring your blankets and chairs and join us for an evening with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra at the Bailey Road Park Bandshell. Free KidZone will be provided and concessions will be available. Coolers and picnic baskets are welcome!
Denver Fireworks Spectacular is on June 30th @ 4pm – 11:00pm at East Lincoln High School dabanc.org This free festival will include top caliber musicians, a dunking booth, raffles, kid games and attractions, food, drinks and cold treats. Performers include country music star Mark Chestnut followed by a huge fireworks display.
SKYSHOW Charlotte at BB&T Ballpark will offer the largest Fourth of July fireworks display in the Southeast on Wednesday, July 4th 2014 at BB&T Ballpark. Come early for the pre-game festivities at the SkyShow Street Party including live music, food, drinks, inflatables, kid crafts, carnival rides, games, prizes and more! After the game, we will honor our Veterans and Military Personnel in a patriotic flag ceremony followed by the most amazing choreographed fireworks in the Southeast!
4th of July Festival at the U.S. Whitewater Center: Show your patriotism and break out your red, white and blue at the USNWC‘s 4th of July Festival, a two-day celebration on Tuesday July 3rd and Wedneday July 4th featuring outdoor adventure, live music and spectacular firework displays. Musical performances on the Belmont Abbey Island stage will take place in the afternoon and evening, followed by a stunning firework display over the world’s largest man-made whitewater river. Bring out your blanket or chairs, pick out a great viewing spot and enjoy the show.
** NOTE date change!! They are having it on the 3rd not the 4th. Firework’s display at The Point’s Trump International Golf Club in Mooresville at 9:30pm. This will be the sixth year of fireworks at the golf club community. In the past the mortars and shells for the show were so large that the Fire Marshall’s office required New York-based BAY Fireworks Pyrotechnic Engineering to notify the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport that night so airplanes could be directed to a different flight plan!!! For residents and members of The Point and Trump International Golf Club Charlotte there are a whole day of activities offered starting with a tennis round robin at 9:00am.
Queen’s Landing fireworks cruises : Queens Landing is having a day and evening 4th of July celebration including:
Clown 2–5 p.m.
Balloon Artist 2–5 p.m.
Juggling 3–5 p.m.
Face Painting 3–6 p.m.
Caricature Artist 4–8 p.m.
Darrell Harwood 6–9 p.m.
Take one of 4 cruises on Lake Norman and watch a fireworks show from the water! Queen’s Landing, 1459 River Highway, Mooresville.
Annual events not yet confirmed for 2018:
Lake Norman Peninsula Golf Club (Not the Yacht Club) is having a fireworks display at 9:30pm on July 4th. 19101 Peninsula Club Drive, Cornelius. They have been doing this for about 15 years but keep it quiet!
