Wow, I can’t believe that I have lived here for over 10 years! When I first started writing this blog I was looking through the eyes of a new “transplant” from California. So much has happened in these past years that I decided to make a new list of the top reasons why I STILL love living in Lake Norman.
Surrounded by Green
I love our amazing hardwood trees, Fescue lawns and gorgeous natural areas with towering pine trees and picturesque native Dogwoods living in harmony with our Sugar Maples, Poplar Trees, Oaks and so many others.
Our Carolina Blue Skies
On most sunny days we enjoy the most stunning deep blue skies. On days like this you just have to smile!
Our friendly people and relaxed lifestyle
What I love about Lake Norman is that despite that fact that about 75% of our residents are “transplants” from many other parts of the country, newcomers adopt our local customs of waving to strangers, smiling and just being friendly and helpful. This Starbucks at Birkdale Village is always a hub of activity from young moms with strollers, friends hanging out, people taking a break from our numerous fitness options including Lululemon and Pure Barre just down the street or people of all ages just stopping by.
Amazing new restaurants and Craft Breweries
My favorite new place to eat just opened last month adjacent to Whole Foods in Huntersville: Viva La Chicken Peruvian Restaurant. Seriously, it is almost insane how many wonderful new restaurants, wine and craft beer shops and breweries have opened in the past 10 years all over Lake Norman but particularly in Mooresville, Davidson, Huntersville and Cornelius.
The revival of our historic downtowns
The first day my husband and I arrived in Mooresville it was about 3:00pm and we were starving. We walked up and down Historic Downtown Mooresville but couldn’t find one place to eat. Now not only Downtown Mooresville has amazing restaurants like Epic Chop House and The Daily Grind but Historic Downtown Davidson was just featured in an article in the Charlotte Observer: Downtown Davidson becomes Restaurant Row. Their newest addition, Kindred, was named one of the country’s top 10 hot new restaurants. Wow!
The widening of Brawley School Rd and Exit 35
Okay, so this one is very personal! After enduring three years of construction, those of us lucky enough to live down Brawley School Rd. are more than thrilled with the out come. My husband and I are avid cyclists and having bike lanes is just awesome. Add to that two lanes each way with divided, landscaped medians, sidewalks and our very own Exit 35 at Interstate I-77 and we feel like the luckiest people on earth. Well, the landscaping is really pathetic but we are so grateful we don’t even complain too much.
Lake Norman offers myriad lifestyle choices
For sports enthusiasts Lake Norman is their Mecca.
Or how about living at the Lake Norman Air Park where one of your garages is an airplane hanger?
From the amazing resort community of The Point and Trump National Golf Club
To your own quiet retreat where you truly feel away from it all and enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife that makes Lake Norman such a special place to live.
Our 4 seasons
Spring is definitely my favorite of the 4 seasons but it is such fun to have a little snow in the winter and have gorgeous fall colors too.
It’s home
Yes, after 10 years my garden has evolved into a little slice of heaven for me. I have added a little of me to Lake Norman and in return Lake Norman has made me feel like I am home.
