Lake Norman’s sunsets are always wonderful but to capture this moment of pure joy with the young boy’s outstretched arms is priceless. When you look at the boy you just can’t help but smile and feel uplifted by his happiness. What a great way to greet our summer of 2015 on Lake Norman!

This amazing photo was taken by renowned artist Cotton Ketchie, owner of Mooresville’s Landmark Gallerieswho spends much of his time driving all over North Carolina and even summer trips around the country, taking stunning photos. And, of course, he also takes some amazing photos of Lake Norman as well. If you haven’t visited his store on Main Street in Historic Downtown Mooresville you should put it on your list for 2014! He has myriad beautiful photographs like this one for sale as well as his wonderful watercolors and even North Carolina pottery. Continue reading

Lake Norman Waterfront view is this month's calendar

May in Lake Norman is when the lake really comes to life. Our shoreline’s profusion of lush green trees, Carolina Blue Skies, and warm weather lure even the most casual boaters out on the lake.  I was enjoying this amazing view a few days ago at a waterfront home I am listing and I just couldn’t resist taking a photo!  This is a great example of the best of life off of the Main Channel.  While it is just around the corner, wide coves like this one are perfect for those seeking a bit more serenity and sense of nature.  Continue reading

Spring is finally here! April truly is my favorite month of the year here in Lake Norman. All of our trees turn the most brilliant shades of green, flowers abound and our Carolina Blue Skies and sunshine give me such a boost of energy.  While I love Lake Norman, I also enjoy driving out into the farmlands where you will see fields of yellow like this one above as mustard and various crops start to take over the rolling red soil fields.

Spring is coming!  March is when Lake Norman trees, bushes and flower gardens start coming back to life.  By April we will be surrounded by green and bursts of the colors of springtime.  I am thrilled that THE local expert on plants and wildlife, Christine Lisiewski (who works at my favorite Dearness Gardens Nursery in Huntersville), has provided us with another one of her amazing photographs for this month’s calendar. Christine takes stunning photos of nature and flowers and generously shared this one with us. Not only is she the plant buyer at Dearness Gardens but she just recently was picked to design and implement a butterfly garden for The Preserve at Robbins Point and she even teaches classes about butterflies and native gardens. Visit her new blog: Christine’s Beautiful World.

One quick look and you might think this amazing mountain is in the Blue Ridge Mountains but it isn’t. Pilot Mountain, which is considered one of the most distinctive natural features in North Carolina, is actually part of an ancient chain of Sauratown Mountains and is located northeast of Lake Norman in our beautiful Yadkin Valley known for its over 50 wineries including two in the town of Pilot Mountain population 1477!   Pilot Mountain is part of the Pilot Mountain State Park where visitors can take a paved road to the visitor center and campgrounds or go further up to a parking lot on the ridge.  Trails from there take you to the main Little Pinnacle Overlook and other viewing spots. In keeping with the historic theme of my last article: Lake Norman Waterfront Lots for Sale: $795 and $10 Down,  I decided to choose this photograph of the Murray’s Mill Historic Site  ablaze with fall colors for this month’s calendar. If you are looking for a great place to picnic or enjoy a bit of local history, Murray’s Mill Historic Site in Catawba County includes the 1913 mill itself, the 1890s Murray & Minges General Store, the 1880s Wheathouse, used as an exhibit gallery, the 1913 John Murray House, furnished to the period, and numerous outbuildings. Most Lake Norman folks will tell you that October is usually the last month of our active boating/water sports season even though it may officially end on Labor Day. This paddle boarder is getting in a last few hours before the sun sets on a typical, beautiful fall day on Lake Norman.  The Carolina Blue Skies are fading into the brilliant autumn tones of the sunset.

Fall is a very special season on Lake Norman.  The tree-lined shoreline becomes ablaze with vibrant shades of reds, oranges and yellows as our many Maple, Gum, Poplar and other stunning trees transform in preparation for winter with a back drop of our brilliant Carolina Blue Skies.  The reason many folks relocate to Lake Norman is because we do have 4 distinct seasons albeit very mild ones. Fall and Spring are definite my favorite times of year!
